Super Smash Bros Melee was released in 2001 and still maintains its competitive appeal. Long-term players know that the game continues to provide new gameplay techniques and mechanics to explore, pushing the skill ceiling and expertise required to win even higher and higher; but that doesn't mean it doesn't also show its age.
