The Stuck-at-Home Book Club

Hello there!
It’s odd times we’re living in, and as such, it’s odd things you gotta do to adapt. I guess I mean this as much in business as I do in sanity. So in the downtime until the world reopens (it’s gonna be a few months kids let’s be real), we’ve decided to take all the creative energy we spend detailing and outfitting our mobile, on-the-road, ramen stand convention booth and direct it here in our digital home instead!

Conceptually, SPIF has never been any one thing; we’ve always had our heart in video games, yeah sure- but the core of our name comes from the Sunday funnies, and we brainstormed it together at 2am while eating honey butter chicken biscuits at our local Whataburger (not a paid advert, but we’d kill for the sponsorship). Point is, there is no end goal into what we want to be, what we want to see, what we hope to do. We like everything, and we like you, and we’d like to share some of the coolest things we’ve come across in our travels— not just stuff on the road but everything that makes us, us. And we have all this acreage of digital real estate at our disposal, why not use it?

One of the things I miss most about the road are all the games we used to play. I don’t mean smash and friendlies or the countless game halls and arcade rooms (though Jebaileyland suddenly springs to mind), but my favorite game—top two for sure favorite game— was “Hey, You. Pick a hand.” Oh the consternation I would give to people; the anxiety attacks that would start in the eyes and slowly quiver across their entire skeletal structure, the eyes suddenly bulging in incredulous fear of unprompted singling out……moi? ; and me standing there six feet away with both hands outstretched, one or both containing something: a pin, a button, a curse. It was a game, and for me with that individual, it was a moment, a memory, hopefully a highlight for them in the entire whirlwind weekend of whatever event and city it happened to be. It was fun, you know, to stupefy and amuse for a second some passing wanderby.

So that’s what I’m trying to build here, the same little pockets of exploration magic. That same odd feeling of stumbling upon something new and thinking, is this real?

Hell yeah we’re real.
and we hope this can suffice until we see you again.
