Catching Up with Qavee, SPIF's First Official Brand Ambassador

July 17, 2018

SPIF is proud to announce Cathy (Qavee) as our first official brand ambassador! On top of being a stellar model, influencer, and personality, Qavee is an amazing friend and will be periodically helping at the SPIF booth at events. Get to know her a little bit here!

Since you started attending events, you've earned the nickname "Tournamom," can you tell us a little bit about that?

I pretty much can't help but be over prepared for “what-ifs” at tourneys, it got to the point where anytime someone needed virtually anything I was able to pull it out of my bag. That, plus ensuring everyone's hydrated constantly, makes me very much the mom-friend. Tournament + mom = tournamom. I think it caught on as a term around Genesis 5!

What are some of your strongest interests/hobbies?

Like. Eating, honestly LOL. And I think it'd be a bit ridiculous if I didn't say “traveling” here as well. Hit me with those food tours, oof. (I also love movies and anime)

What's your favorite kind of food?

Japanese cuisine is probably my favourite in general - I can't really get more specific than that. I don't like picking favourites, aha.

Being a Portland resident, can you give us 3 restaurants you'd recommend there?

Pok Pok, Bamboo Sushi, and Afuri!

Favorite movie/show

I don't have one! There's a lot that I love but choosing favourites stresses me out. (THANKS ALEX) Favourite ghibli film is Princess Mononoke, favourite anime film out in the last couple years is Kimi No Na Wa, favourite Sci Fi film is prooooobably Arrival?

What's the one place you most want to visit?

JAPAN JAPAN JAPAN JAPAN JAPAN!!! It's been the same answer since I was 10 years old and my cousin brought me back a hiragana chart from her trip to Japan. I've been teaching myself Japanese ever since.

What's something about you that surprises people?

People tend to think I'm kidding when I say “I'm crying” but when they meet me and I actually sob, or I take a bite of really good food and just start crying they learn it's all for real and I tend to get really surprised reactions, hahaha (shout outs to poutine at Genesis 5)

What are some of your biggest fears?

Car accidents, gun violence, and spiders.

You got a new tattoo recently! Can you tell us a little bit about the reason why you picked out the particular design?

I have a rose and a dagger side by side on my right forearm. It has no particular meaning, nor did I plan it. During the 11 days I spent in Los Angeles before Hyrule Saga I was going through some major life changes and just decided I needed an unplanned tattoo like, immediately LOL. I left top 8 at Hyrule Saga and headed to “The California Dream Tattoos” where I was able to get a walk-in with Romeo Lacoste, who was shocked (and a little offended) that I didn't know who he was. I definitely unintentionally crushed his ego several times over. Sorry, Romeo. Though the tattoo was unplanned and had no particular meaning, the dagger has consistently reminded me of one of my best and closest friends, Taylor (@sleepykokiri), so that was a nice lil bonus. The rose brings me thoughts of Sailor Moon a lot - fitting for the SPIF City line. So maybe the meaning for me developed later :)

If you could be good at anything you wanted, what would it be?

Not having anxiety, lmao. Being a good singer would be cool too though.

What's a dream you want to achieve?

I have two major ones that are both really important to me: to live in Japan for an extended period of time (6 months +), and to travel across Haida Gwaii (previously Queen Charlotte Islands) where my ancestors are from.

That's it!

Be sure to give Qavee a follow on twitter and instagram @qavee to keep up with all her travels, food adventures, and of course, SPIF stuff!
